Welcome

Hello and welcome to the first post for the Escape with a Good Book blog. The intention is that this will be a warts and all affair, revealing the journey of the site’s development from point A to, who knows? Point B? Or point C or D if things go well.

My hope is that one day Escape with a Good Book will become a well known online platform for swapping and sharing books. Currently it’s a rather basic web based application with zero users, unless you count myself.

I’d like to create something positive for its users. Something to enable people to share books, rather than simply leaving them to gather dust on a shelf, and to provide a second life for those books. To allow people to share books that they themselves have enjoyed. A place to not only share books but to provide some form of community; somewhere to connect with other readers.

The platform's primary goal is to enable readers to offer a book they've finished to others and then claim a new book for themselves. Although not yet implemented, the plan is to feature some form of simple points system so that points are earned when a book is offered and points deducted when a book is claimed from someone else.

Of course these aims are nothing new. If a decent solution existed already then I wouldn’t have spent the past few months building something. However, the existing solutions either seemed a bit outdated (in look and execution) or, in one particular case, was taken offline and (at the time of writing this) is yet to return. This all leads me to believe that there is a niche, an opportunity, and that my idea is somewhat viable.

If any of this sounds like something you would be interested in then please pop over to escapewithagoodbook.com/subscribe and sign-up. Be one of the first to get access to the site and help shape the future of Escape with a Good Book. I’d be interested to know what genres of book you read too.

Thank you for taking the time to read this first post.
